Since 2006, we have been the provincial leader in helping communities develop inclusive emergency plans. Now, we want to share our expertise with businesses and organizations. You'll learn how to identify and plan for people's diverse needs in all kinds of emergencies and natural disasters.

The SITE Program

BCCPD has developed this program out of our extensive work with community stakeholders, including first responders, government departments and disability organizations. When you take SITE, you'll become an expert on how to include people with disabilities and seniors in your emergency planning. And, we'll tailor SITE to your business or organization's needs.

• Emergency planning is not just about preparing for “the big one.” Small scale emergencies can have a huge impact on your business. You'll learn about the kinds of local hazards and emergencies that can affect your employees, clients or customers and your worksite, and how you can be prepared.

• We'll show you how to do a hazards assessment of your worksite and plan emergency drills with staff.

• SITE will show you how to gather self-assessment information from your staff to help you create an emergency plan. You'll plan how your staff can help each other and your clients with disabilities in an emergency.
• Employers and employees both have responsibilities during an evacuation. You'll learn your responsibilities and how to train your employees.
  
• SITE will teach you how to plan for specific disabilities, e.g. visual, hearing, cognitive and mobility. You'll learn how different disabilities can affect a person’s ability to respond in emergencies and how this can be addressed in your plan.
• The ability to communicate quickly with all employees and clients is critical during an emergency. The SITE program covers emergency notification options, communication devices used by people with disabilities, and how to communicate with clients and customers with a variety of disabilities. You'll learn how to make your written emergency plan accessible to employees with disabilities.
• The SITE program covers the Emergency Preparedness and Response sections of the Workers Compensation Act, so you'll understand your responsibilities under the Act. 
• You will receive a copy of our guide Workplace Emergency Planning for Workers with Disabilities that covers many of the topics from the SITE training, as well as a wealth of other resources.
• And, SITE graduates receive a certificate of completion.

We  offer training workshops in Metro Vancouver, Southern Vancouver Island, Sunshine Coast, and the Squamish and Whistler regions.

Businesses and government

Metro Vancouver: Half day $650 | Full day $1,000

Southern Vancouver Island/Sunshine Coast: Full day  $1,500

Squamish and Whistler area: Full day  $1,600

Non-profit organizations: 20% discount

BCCPD member organizations: Additional 10% discount
