Community Living Crisis

A coalition of organizations, including BCCPD, have made recommendations to protect and improve supports for adults with developmental disabilities.

Time for a Poverty Reduction Plan in BC

More than 200 organizations and community leaders have joined together to call for a comprehensive poverty reduction plan with legislated targets and timelines.

Guide Animal Act

For years, BCCPD and other disability organizations have been gathering information on the shortcomings of the current Guide Animal Act and preparing a workable alternative.

Part 7 Accident Benefits

BCCPD is advocating for long overdue change to Part 7 of the Insurance Motor Vehicle Act.

Part 7 Benefits ensure that British Columbians who are injured in automobile accidents receive rehabilitation services and wage benefits to compensate them while they are injured. Part 7 also provides death benefits to families for funeral expenses and lost income.

Woodlands

BCCPD is working closely with the Woodlands survivors in their struggle for justice and compensation. Woodlands School was a provincial institution that provided residential care between 1950 and 1996 for thousands of children who were deemed to have mental disorders. 

Equipment and Assistive Devices

According to Statistics Canada surveys, most British Columbians with disabilities struggle to find the personal supports that they need.  Since 2006, BCCPD has been part of a coalition of community organizations working to address this unmet need. See also the Personal Supports Page.

Wrongful Death

BCCPD, along with the Coalition Against No-Fault (CANF) and the Trial Lawyers Association of BC (TLABC), are seeking a new wrongful death act in British Columbia.
